“God’s Word Must Be Preached!”
テモテへの第二の手紙4章には、パウロが弟子のテモテに残した最後の指示が記されています。パウロはテモテを叱咤激励することで、この指示の重大さを強調しています。
「神の御前で、また、生きている人と死んだ人を裁かれるキリスト・イエスの御前で、その現れとその御国を思いながら、私は厳かに命じます。」（1節）
神の御言葉は、一年中、あらゆる時に宣べ伝えられなければなりません。神の御言葉は、「完全な忍耐と教えをもって、戒め、叱責し、戒める」（2節）ために使われなければなりません。パウロは、その事の理由も明らかにしています。それは人々が、自分の好みにしたがって、自分たちの教師を寄せ集め、真理から耳を背け、作り話にそれいくようになるからです。
神の御言葉は、常に宣べ伝えられなければなりません。しかし、パウロがテモテに最後の指示を伝えて以来、歴史上、あらゆる種類の御言葉に反することが伝えられるようになりました。
第2コリント10章で、パウロは、異なる福音を説く者たちからキリスト教を擁護しました。キリスト教会の最初の数百年間は、イエスの神性を否定する異端に悩まされていました。
今日、同じ事を主張する異端があります。イエスは神ではないと、エホバの証人は主張します。末日聖徒イエス・キリスト教会（モルモン教）は、聖書よりも権威を持つとする他の正典を作り出しました。
私は個人的に、説教と称しながら説教でない講演をたくさん聞いてきました。ある人たちは、自分の気分が良くなるようなメッセージだけを聴く習慣がついてしまっているのです。誤解しないでいただきたいのは、気分が良くなるような説教が必ずしも悪いということではありません。しかし、聖書全体が説かれるのであれば、必ずしも気分が良くなることだけではないでしょう。
私は以前、説教の中で「地獄」という言葉を出すと、人を不快にさせるから語らないようにと言われたことがあります。しかし、神の言葉は私たちを不快にさせることがあるのも確かです。例えば、私たちが不快に感じるのは、神の御言葉が私たちの罪を確信させるからです。
さらに神の言葉は、私たちが罪人であることを認識させるだけでなく、その罪から悔い改める必要があることを教えています。このプロセスは、人によっては不快である以上に、時には苦痛でさえあるかもしれません。しかし、キリストの姿に変えられるためには、罪の認識と悔い改めが必要です。
人は一度キリストに信仰を置くと、救われます。しかし、信仰を深めるためには、クリスチャンは神の御言葉を学び、黙想しなければなりません。
残念ながら、ある人にとっては、それは日曜日だけなのです。しかし、だからこそ神の御言葉は説教壇から説かれなければならないのです。人間が今日語ることのできる言葉で、永遠の神の言葉に勝るものは絶対にないのです。
もし、説教者が聖書を神の言葉として信じないで、聖書の一部を無視したり、和らげたり、解釈し直したりするなら、それは大きな問題です。ある説教者は、自分の考えを説き、自分の考えを支持するために聖書の一節や二節を挿入します。これは、もはや神の御言葉を説いているのではありません。神の言葉を操るようなことは決してしてはいけません。神の言葉を説くということは、その逆で、説教の内容を形作るのは常に神の言葉でなければならないのです。神の言葉は、昨日も今日も同じであり、永遠に変わることはありません（マタイ24:35）。
父なる神よ、今日の御言葉をありがとうございます。あなたの御言葉は、天地は過ぎ去っても、過ぎ去ることがないと宣言しています（マタイ24：35）。
また今日、あなたは牧師という役割を与えられた者は、あなたの御言葉を伝えなければならないことを示されました。お父さん、どうか私たち全員が耳を塞ぐことのないように守り続けてください。
私たちがあなただけに集中することができるようにしてください。人間のはかない知恵ではなく、あなたの永遠の御言葉に集中することができるように助けてください。お父さま、ありがとうございます。In Jesus’ Name we pray, amen!
2Timothy 4 contains Paul’s final instructions to his disciple Timothy. The seriousness of the instructions to follow is stressed by Paul exhorting Timothy: “I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and His kingdom” (v1). What Paul is saying is that if Timothy does not follow Paul’s instructions that follow, he will face judgment from God. Paul is telling Timothy that if he does not preach God’s Word, he will face judgment from God. God’s Word must be preached in every season, all year around. God’s Word must be used to “reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching” (v2). Paul also reveals the reason why Timothy must do this: People listening to God’s Word will eventually want to hear more and find themselves teachers who will teach other myths besides God’s Word.
God’s Word must be preached. However, throughout history, ever since Paul left his final instructions to Timothy, all sorts of abominations were preached. In 2 Corinthians 10, Paul defended Christianity against so-called “Super Apostles” that preached a different gospel. In the first few hundred years, heresies that reduced Jesus to a created being plagued the early church. That same heresy is preached today by the Jehovah’s Witnesses, who claim that Jesus is a god but not God. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, or Mormons, came up with other books that they claim have the same authority as the Bible. The Roman Catholic Church makes similar claims on the authority of tradition and the office of the pope. Also problematic today in America and around the world is the New Apostolic Reformation. This loosely organized group infiltrates smaller mainline churches with their dangerous teachings. But we, too, must be very careful. I have personally listened to many speeches that claim to be sermons but are not. Many people have gotten into the habit of listening only to messages that make them feel good. Don’t get me wrong; we must hear sermons that make us feel good. But if the whole Bible is preached, this will not always be the case. I was once told to mention the word “hell” in my sermon because it would make people uncomfortable. But God’s Word must make us feel uncomfortable. We feel uncomfortable because God’s Word convicts us of our sins. God’s Word teaches us that we must not only recognize that we are sinners but also repent from our sins. This process may be more than uncomfortable, but even painful at times for some people. But to be transformed into the image of Christ, we must change from our old ways and conform to Him. This is not to be mistaken with salvation. Once a person places his or her faith in Christ, they are saved. However, to grow in their faith, Christians must study and meditate on God’s Word. Unfortunately, for many of us, it is only on Sundays. This is why God’s Word must be preached from the pulpit. There is absolutely nothing that human beings can speak today that will trump the eternal Word of God. This is the big problem when preachers go liberal and either ignore, soften or re-interpret parts of Scripture. Many of them preach their own ideas and insert a Bible verse or two to support their own ideas. This is not preaching God’s Word. We must never manipulate God’s Word this way; Preaching God’s Word is just the opposite because it must be always be God’s Word that shapes what preaches say. God’s Word is the same today as it was yesterday and will remain unchanged forevermore (Matthew 24:35).
Thank You, Father, for today’s Word. Your Word declares that Heaven and earth may pass away, but Your Word will not pass away (Matthew 24:35). Today, You also showed us that those who are given the role of pastors must preach Your Word. Father, please continue to protect all of us from getting itchy ears. Please help us to stay focused on You and only You. Please help us to stay focused on Your eternal Word and not the fleeting wisdom of man. Thank You, Father. We love You, Father.
