詩篇第五巻 148篇
“Praise The Lord!”
詩篇148篇は、最後の5篇（146～150）の第3篇で、「ファイナル・ハラール」と呼ばれることが多い詩篇です。ハラールとは、「主をほめたたえる 」という意味で、詩篇148篇には12回登場します。その12回は、1）Yahwehの短縮形であるYa、2）Yahweh、3）「主の御名」と訳されるHashem Yahweh、4）「Praise Him」と訳される別の形のHalalと共に使用されています。
従って、詩篇148篇のテーマは明らかに "主をほめたたえよ！"です。1節から6節は、天のすべての場所で主を賛美しています。7節から14節は、すべての被造物が地上で主をほめたたえています。ですから、詩篇148篇の前半は、天のすべての被造物に主をほめたたえるように呼びかけ、後半は、私たち全員を含む地上のすべてのものに主をほめたたえるように呼びかけているのです。
私たちは皆、「主をほめたたえよう！」と言います。ノンクリスチャンはもちろん、クリスチャンにとっても、「Praise the Lord 」と言うと、とても戸惑うかもしれません。
例えば、こんなことを思ったことはありませんか？「なぜ、神をほめる必要があるのだろう？」日常生活で、子どもや生徒が良いことをしたら、褒めるのは親や先生ではないでしょうか？ 誰かをほめるとき、普通は社会的に下の人をほめるのではないでしょうか？ 興味深いことに、14節では、神の聖者を「ほめる」ために、ハラールではなく、ティラを用いています。ですから、ティラは私たちの理解する 「ほめる」に近い言葉なのです。ハラールは下ではなく、上に向かっています。
ご存知のように、ある言語で使われる多くの言葉は、他の言語に直接翻訳することができません。ヘブライ語を英語に翻訳しても、日本語を英語に翻訳する場合もそうです。ヘブライ語のハラールという言葉をよく見てみると、ハラールは必ずしも「賛美」と訳されていないことがわかります。「讃える」という訳語が最も一般的ですが、「栄光」「自慢」「輝く」「称賛」「祝う」等々、様々な訳語があります。ハラールがどのように訳されているかを調べると、聖書がハレルヤ（Halleluiah）あるいは「主をほめたたえなさい」という言葉で実際に何を表現しようとしているのかが、より明確になります。
ハラールの様々な訳語を調べることで、神を賛美することは、子どもに対するように「いい子ね」と表現することではないことがわかります。むしろ、その逆です。ハラールの訳し方を考慮すると、「Revere the Lord!」と訳すのが良いのかもしれません。でも、これではしっくりこないですよね。
ですから、今度「主をほめたたえなさい」と言うときは、子どもをほめるように神をほめるのではない、ということを心に留めておいてください。私たちが主をほめたたえるのは、私たちの主であり救い主である、すべての被造物の神をほめたたえるためなのです。主をほめたたえることは、主をほめたたえ、最も高いところにおられる主を、私たちの人生の中で最も高い位置に引き上げる、祝福の行為なのです。
父なる神さま、あなたをほめたたえるとはどういうことなのか、その理解を深めてくださることを感謝します。あなたは、私たちが小さな子どもをほめるようにほめられる必要はありません。詩篇148篇にあるように、あなたはすべての創造主です。私たちの多くは間違った信仰に陥っており、本来はあなたの手柄であるべきところを、誤って他の人の手柄にしてしまっているのです。多くの人は宇宙を崇拝しています。しかし、神さま、あなたは宇宙を創造されたのですから、あなただけが私たちの賛美に値するのです。私たちはあなたを、そして主であるあなただけを賛美します。私たちは、あなたの聖なる御名を賛美します! お父さま、ありがとうございます。お父さま、ありがとうございます！ 私たちはお父さまを愛しています。In Jesus Name we pray, amen.
“Praise The Lord!”
Psalm 148 is the 3rd in a series of the final 5 Psalms (146-150) and often referred to as the “Final Halal.” Halal, which translates to “Praise” as in “Praise the Lord,” appears 12 times in Psalm 148. It its 12 occurrences, the Halal is used with 1) Ya which is a shortened form of “Yahweh,” 2) Yahweh, 3) Hashem Yahweh which translates to “The Name of the Lord,” and 4) another form of Halal that translates to Praise Him. Therefore, the obvious theme of Psalm 148 is also “Praise the Lord!” Verses 1 through 6 praises the Lord from above in all the heavenly places. Verses 7 through 14 Praises the Lord from all creation or earthly places. Therefore, the first half of Psalm 148 calls all heavenly creatures to praise the Lord, and the second half calls for everything on earth, which includes all of us, to praise the Lord.
We all say “Praise the Lord!” For non-Christians, and Christians too, saying “Praise the Lord” may be very confusing. For instance, have any of you wondered: “Why do we need to praise God?” In everyday life, isn’t it parents or teachers who praise their children and students when they do good? When we praise someone, don’t we usually praise someone socially below us? Interestingly, verse 14 uses the thilla, not halal, to “praise” God’s saints.” Therefore, thilla is a word that is closer to our understanding of the word “praise” in our own language. Halel is directed upwards, not down. As we all know, many words used in one language cannot be directly translated into another language. We all know that many words in Japanese cannot be translated into English; such is the case with translating Hebrew to English or Japanese. Taking a closer look at the Hebrew word halal will reveal that halal is not always translated to “Praise.” Although “praise” is the most common translation of the word halal, Halal can also be translated to “glory,” “boast,” “shine,” “commend”, “celebrate,” and a few more terms. Examining alternate ways in which halal is translated will give a clearer picture of what the Bible actually intends to express with the words halel ya (Halleluiah) or “Praise the Lord.” By examining the various translations of halel, we can see that praising God is not expressing to him “good boy,” as to a child. In fact, it is the exact opposite. A better translation, taking into consideration ways in which halelcan be translated, may be “Revere the Lord!” But that doesn’t feel right does it? Therefore, the next time we say “Praise the Lord,” lets keep in mind that we do not praise God like we do a child. We praise the Lord to glorify and celebrate our Lord and Savior, the God of all Creation. Praising our Lord is a celebratory act of glorifying Him and lifting Him, the most high up; up to the highest position in all of our lives.
Thank you, Father, for teaching us a better understanding of what it means to give You praise. You don’t need to be praised like we praise little children. That is not who You are Father. As Psalm 148 declared, You are the Creator of everything. Many of us have fallen to false beliefs where we falsely give credit to others when it should be You. Many people worship the universe. But God, You created the universe and it is only You that are worth of our praise! In all reference, we praise You, and only You Lord! We praise Your holy Name! Thank you Father! We love you Father.
