箴言10章
“You Reap what You Sow!”
これまでの最初の9つの箴言は、「我が子よ」という呼びかけから始まる“助言”が主な内容でした。
それに対して箴言10章は、ほとんどが短く簡潔な格言を集めたものです。10章は、32の関連のない短い一行の知恵の言葉の集まりに見えます。しかしよく見ると、いくつかのテーマ、パターン、グループ分けが可能であることが分かります。
包括的なテーマは、良い事と悪い事の対比と、それぞれの結果です。10章のほぼ半分のテーマは、“義人対悪人 ”の対比です。その他に認識できるテーマとしては1）曲がった者対誠実な者、2）無実の者対有罪の者、3）賢い者対愚か者、4）正しい者対愚か者、5）教え得る者対教えられない者、6）憎しみ対愛、違反対慎重さ、7）怠惰対勤勉さです。
これらの短いことばは、物事の結果を予測するものとも言えるでしょう。もし、ある人が、1）勤勉で、2）思慮深く、3）教えられやすく、4）誠実で、5）祝福を語り、6）愛し、7）口を慎み、8）自制心があり、9）主を畏れるならば、その人は、次のようになります。1) 幸せな父を持ち、2) 死から解放され、3) 豊かで、4) 祝福され、5) 安全を得、6) いのちの泉となり、7) 戒めを受け、8) 心に赦しを受け、9) 知恵を持ち、10) 知識を持ち、11) 命を得て、12) 銀を手に入れ、13) 多くのものを食べ、 14) 望みのものを受け、 15) 誘惑を乗り切り、 16) 自分の地にとどめられ、17) 多くの人から認められるのです。
しかし、これに対して、1)怠け者、2)働くべき時に寝ている、3)ばかなことを言う、4)取引において曲がっている、5)恨みを持つ、6)憎しみを持ち続ける、7)嘘をつく、8)人に悪いことをする、9)人を中傷する、10)自制心がない、といった人は、次のような人です。1) 悲しい母親を持つ、2) 得るものがない、3) 貧しい、4) 恥ずかしい、5) 腐る、6) 破滅する、7) 安全がない、8) 困る、9) 争う、10) 体罰を受ける、11)罪、12) 迷走する、です。13) 価値がない、14) 死ぬ、15) 最も恐れるものを受ける、16) 誘惑に陥る、17) 自分の土地から追い出される、18) 自分のコミュニティから切り離される、19) 短い命、そして 20) 拒絶される。
これらの格言を読んで、どれだけの人がこう言ったことでしょう。“この事はもう知っている”、“この事は常識だ”。一般的な格言とは異なり、この箴言の格言の根底にある真理は自明であるように思われます。
しかし、なぜこれらの格言は自明なのでしょうか？ どのような事が “良い ”のか、どのような事が “悪い”のか、なぜ私たちはすでに知っているのでしょうか？ なぜ、どの国でも、どの文化でも、善悪の観念は同じなのでしょうか？ 殺人、盗み、暴行、嘘といったことが、なぜこの地球上のほとんどすべての集団で普遍的に“悪いこと”だと考えられているのだろうと考えた人はいるでしょうか。
もっと大きな疑問は、なぜ、私たちは生まれながらにしてこれらのモラルを備えているのだろうか、ということです。その答えは創世記にあります。神は「さあ、人をわれわれのかたちとして、われわれの似姿に造ろう」（創世記 1:26）と言われました。
私たちは皆、神に似せて造られたのです。神に似せて造られたということの意味は、私たちは神の道徳を持った道徳的な存在として造られたということです。堕落によってそのイメージは損なわれましたが、そのイメージの多くはまだ残存しており、私たちは今でも何が良いことで、何が悪いことなのかを本能的に知ることが出来るのです。
これに加えて、私たちはイエスが創造主であることも知っています。ヨハネの福音書はこう宣言しています。「すべてのものは、この方によって造られた。造られたもので、この方によらずにできたものは一つもなかった」（ヨハネの福音書 1:3）。
そうです。イエスはアダムより前に、初めからそこにおられたのです。聖霊が私たち一人ひとりに働くとき、私たちは毎日、毎時間ごとに、ますますイエスのようになるのです。
父なる神さま、今日も御言葉をありがとうございます。あなたのイメージに私たちを創造してくださったことを感謝します。私たちに道徳を与えてくださりありがとうございます。私たちに善悪を見分ける力を与えてくださってありがとうございます。
そして、私たちと共にいて、あなたとの関係を回復するために、あなたの御子イエス·キリストを遣わしてくださったことを感謝します。私たちがあなたの道徳的な基準に従って生活できるように力を与えてください。誘惑や怠けから私たちを守ってください。私たちがますますあなたのようになれるように、私たちの意志をあなたの御霊にゆだね続けましょう。父なるさま、どうか私たちの道をまっすぐに保ち、あなたの御名があがめられるようにしてください。父なる神さま、ありがとうございます。お父さま、私たちはお父さまを愛しています。In Jesus Name we pray, Amen.
Proverbs 10 begins by introducing Solomon as its author.Unlike the first 9 proverbs that consisted mostly of detailed advice to “my son,” Proverbs 10 begins a new section with a collection of mostly smaller, more concise proverbs. Although Proverbs 10 appear to be a collection of 32 unrelated small one line words of wisdom, a closer look will reveal a few themes, patterns, and possible groupings. The overarching theme is the contrast between good character and bad character, as well as the outcomes of each. Therefore, the predominant theme for almost half of Psalm 10 is the contrast of “Righteous vs. Wicked.” Some other recognizable themes are: 1) Crooked vs. Integrity, 2) Innocent vs. Guilty, 3) Wise Person vs. Fool, 4) Righteousness vs. Foolishness, 5) Teachable vs. Unteachable, 6) Hatred vs. Love, Transgression vs. Prudence, and 7) Laziness vs. Diligence.
These smaller words of wisdom can also be seen as a predictor of outcomes to certain personality traits. If a person: 1) is diligent, 2) is prudent, 3) is teachable, 4) has integrity, 5) speaks blessings, 6) loves, 7) restrains his mouth, 8) has self restraint, and 9) fears the Lord, he/she: 1) has a happy father, 2) is delivered from death, 3) is rich, 4) is blessed, 5) has security, 6) is a fountain of life, 7) receives commandments, 8) has forgiveness in his heart, 9) has wisdom, 10) has knowledge, 11) has life, 12) is like choice silver, 13) feeds many, 14) receives what he desires, 15) survives temptation, 16) remains in his land, and 17) is accepted by many. In contrast, however, if a person is 1) lazy, 2) sleeps when he should be working, 3) speaks nonsense, 4) is crooked in his dealings, 5) holds grudges, 6) holds onto hatred, 7) lies, 8) does wrong onto others, 9, slanders others, and 10 lacks self-restraint, he/she: 1) has a sad mother, 2) has no gain, 3) is poor, 4) is shame, 5) will rot, 6) is ruined, 7) has no security, 8) will be in trouble, 9) is in strife, 10) receives physical punishment, 11) sins, 12) goes astray, 13) has little worth, 14) dies, 15) receives what he dreads most, 16) falls into temptation, 17) is removed from his land, 18) is cut off from his community, 19) has a shortened life, and 20) is rejected.
How many of you read these proverbs and say: “I already know all this,” or “this is common sense!” Unlike the previous proverbs that went into great detail, the underlying truth of many of these proverbs seem to be self evident. One major indicator that these proverbs are self-evident is that they do not start with “my son.” But why are these sayings self-evident? How is it that we already know which trait is “good,” and which trait is “bad?” Do people of all lands and cultures have the same view of right and wrong? Did we have to learn these traits from our parents, community, or culture? Did anyone ever think: “Why are things like murder, stealing, assault, and lies considered universally “bad” in almost every population on this earth? The bigger question is: “are we born with these morals?” The answer lies in Genesis. God said “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness” (Genesis 1:26, ESV). We were all created in the image of God. Because we were created in His image, God created us as moral beings with His morals. Although the Fall corrupted that image, a lot of that image is still intact and we still instinctively know what is good and what is bad. In addition to this, we also know that Jesus was part of the creation process. The Gospel of John declares: “All things were made through Him, and without Him was not any thing made that was made” (John 1:3, ESV). Yes, Jesus was there from the beginning even before Adam. As the Holy Spirit works in each of us, we become more and more like Jesus every hour, every day.
Thank you, Father, for your Word today. Thank you for creating us in Your image. Thank you for giving us morals. Thank you for giving us the ability to tell right from wrong. And thank you for sending Your Son Jesus Christ to be with us and restore our relationship with You! Give us the strength to live our lives under your moral standard! Please keep us from temptation and laziness. Let us continue to surrender our wills to Your Spirit so se can become more and more like You. Please keep our ways straight, Father, so Your Name will be glorified! Thank you Father. We Love You Father. In Jesus Name we pray, Amen.
