伝道者の書７章
“Life before Jesus” コヘレトの言葉7章は、他のコヘレトの言葉と同様に、教師から生徒へ、あるいは親から子への知恵の言葉集です。 伝道者の書全体が特に難しいのは、この知識が、神の霊感とはいえ約3000年前に私たちとは全く異なる土地と文化に住んでいた実在の人物によって書かれたものであるという点です。 この言葉は、3000年前に実在した著者によって書かれただけでなく、遠く離れた土地に住む人々に向けても書かれたのです。私たちは、伝道者の書や他の聖書のテキストを読むとき、このことを心に留めておく必要があります。この中には、現代の私たちが日常生活の中で適用できる普遍的な原則もありますが、残念ながら完全に把握することができない部分もあるのです。 コヘレトの手紙は、そのような理解しがたい概念を多く含む聖書の中の一書です。難解な箇所については多くの学術的な注釈が書かれていますが、これらの箇所の意味を知るには、原著者に尋ねるしかないという事実を、私たちは時々認識する必要があります。 どのような文章でもそうですが、聖書に書かれている文章は、ただ一つの意味しか持ちません。聖書のテキストを適用する方法は無限にありますが、テキストの意味は常に原著者が元の聴衆に言おうとしていたことなのです。 伝道者の書7章は、知恵と愚かさの対比を説いています。読者の多くは、この章と伝道者の書の他の部分が全体的に暗いという印象を持つでしょう。ここに記されているのは、キリスト以前の人生の現実でなのです。キリストがいなければ、人が待ち望むのは死だけでした。この時代の人々は、現在の生活にだけ希望を置いていたのです。 コヘレトの言葉7章は、今の生活をどう生きるかについて多くの知恵を教えています。また、何を避けるべきかも教えています。また、先生は生徒たちに、自分の日々が限られていることを常に心に留めておくように言っています。そのような時代には、物質的な豊かさよりも知恵を追い求めるべきです。しかし、人間の知恵にも限界があります。真の正しさには、到達できないのです。 20節は、結局、当時の人々の現実を明らかにしています。「この地上に、正しい人は一人もいない。善を行い、罪に陥ることのない人は。」(新改訳2017以下同)。22節は、この事実を読者にはっきりと伝えています。「あなた自身が他人を何度もののしったことを、あなたの心は知っているのだから。」 何百もの律法と燔祭を守っていた時代でも、正しい人は一人もいなかったと先生は明らかにされています。新約聖書もそれを裏付けています。「すべての人は罪を犯して、神の栄光を受けることができず、」(ローマ3:23)。 このブログの読者は、違う場所、違う時代に生きています。伝道者の書7章の本来の読者とは異なり、あなたにはイエスがいます。伝道者の書7章の読者とは異なり、あなたの人生は死で終わるのではありません。皆さんには、天国での永遠の未来が待っているのです。天国では、神があなた方の涙をすべて拭い去り、涙も痛みも死もなくなるのです（黙示録21:4）。 さらに、伝道者の書7章が書かれた時代には正しい人はいませんでしたが、新約聖書では、「神は、罪を知らない方を私たちのために罪とされました。それは、私たちがこの方にあって神の義となるためです。」（2コリント5：21）と断言されています。イエス・キリストのおかげで、すべてのクリスチャンは今、神の義を自分の中に持っているのです。私たちが天国での永遠の栄光の未来を待ち望むことができるのは、私たちのうちにある神の義によってなのです。 父なる神さま、今日の御言葉をありがとうございました。イエスさま以前の人生がどのようなものであったかを垣間見ることができ、感謝します。イエスさまがいなければ、私たちには天国の未来はなく、死だけが待ち望まれるものであったことを思い出させてくれてありがとうございます。 私たちが今、あなたの義の恵みを受けることができるように、罪を知らないあなたの御子イエスさまを私たち全員が受けるべき罰を受けるために遣わしてくださったことを感謝します。 父なる神さま、私たちを愛してくださり、私たちが天国であなたと永遠に過ごすことができるようにしてくださったことを感謝します。父なる神さま、ありがとうございます。父なる神さま、私たちは父なる神さまを愛しています。In Jesus Name we pray, amen. Ecclesiastes 7, as well as the rest of Ecclesiastes, is a collection of words of wisdom from the teacher to the student, or parent to a child. What makes the entire book of Ecclesiastes particularly difficult is that this knowledge, although inspired by God, was written by real people who lived in a land and culture that was very different from ours about 3,000 years ago. Not only were these words written by an author that lived 3,000 years ago, is was also written for the people in a far-away land 3,000 years ago. We need to keep this in mind when we read Ecclesiastes or any other Bible text. Although there are timeless principles from these that we can apply today in our daily lives, there are also aspects of the text that unfortunately cannot be completely grasped. Ecclesiastes is one of those books in the Bible that contain a lot of those difficult to grasp concepts. Although many scholarly commentaries have been written on hard to understand verses, we need to sometimes realize the fact that the only way to know what some of these verses mean is to ask the original author. As with any text, any written text in the Bible has only one meaning. Although there are a limitless amount of ways to apply Biblical text, the meaning of text is always what the original author intended to say to the original audience. Ecclesiastes 7 teaches the contrast between wisdom and folly. The number one fact that catches any reader is the overall gloominess of this chapter as well as the rest of Ecclesiastes. What we are reading about here is the reality of life before Christ. Without Christ, all a person had to look forward to was their death. People in these days placed their hope in the present and in their current life. Ecclesiastes 7 teaches a lot of wisdom on how to make the most out of one’s current life. It also teaches what to avoid. The teacher also reminds his students to always keep in mind that his days are limited. In those days, one should pursue wisdom over material wealth. However, even the wisdom of man has its limits. True righteousness, was unattainable. Verse 20 ultimately reveals the reality of the people of that day.“Surely there is not a righteous man on earth who does good and never sin”(Ecc. 7:20). Verse 22 makes this fact very evident to the reader: “Your heart knows that many times you yourself have cursed others” (Ecc. 7:22). Even in the days of keeping hundreds of laws and burnt offerings, the teacher reveals that there was not a single righteous person. The New Testament confirms this: “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”(Rom. 3:23). Readers of this blog live in a different place and a different time. Unlike the original readers of Ecclesiastes 7, you have Jesus. Unlike the original readers of Ecclesiastes 7, your life does not end at death. You all have an eternal future in heaven to look forward to. In heaven, God will wipe away all your tears and there will be no more mourning, crying, pain, and death (Rev. 21:4). Furthermore, although there were no righteous people in the days that Ecclesiastes 7 was written, The New Testament declares that “for our sake He made Him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God” (2 Corinthians 5:21). Because of Jesus Christ, all Christians now have the righteousness of God in them. It is through God’s righteousness in us that we will all look forward to a guaranteed eternal glorious future in heaven. Thank you, Father, for today’s Word. Thank you for giving us a glimpse of what life was like before Jesus. Thank you for the reminder that without Jesus, we had not future in heaven and death was the only thing to look forward to. Thank You for sending Your Son Jesus, who knew no sin, to suffer the punishment that we all deserved so we call can now receive the grace of Your righteousness. Thank You, Father, for loving us so much that You made a way for us to spend all eternity with You in Heaven. Thank You Father. We love You Father. In Jesus Name we pray, amen.
