箴言17章
“Dealing with Conflict” (Proverbs 17: 4, 9, 10, 14, 15)
引き続き、個々のシンプルな言い回しで構成された箴言を学びます。この箴言の構成は10章から始まり22章まで続きます。この箴言17章は様々なテーマを扱っているので、今日のディボーションは「争いや悪に対処する」というテーマで、4、9、10、14、15節に注目します。
4節にはこうあります。「悪を行う者は邪悪な唇に聞き入り、偽り者は破滅の舌に耳を傾ける。」
この箴言の作者が述べているのは、次のようなことです。悪い人は、他の悪い人に耳を傾ける。さらに、うそつきは、悪いことをする人の言うことを聞く。つまり、キリスト信者として、私たちはゴシップや嘘、その他の悪意のある話に耳を傾けないようにすべきなのです。
9節にはこうあります。「愛を追い求める者は背きの罪をおおう。同じことを蒸し返す者は親しい友を離れさせる。」
これは、イエスの時代のユダヤ人の文化とは似ても似つかない、非常に興味深い節です。前半部分の「愛を追い求める者は背きの罪をおおう」、これこそまさに福音ではないでしょうか。
ヨハネによる福音書3章16節には、こう記されています。「それは、彼を信じる者が一人も滅びることなく、永遠のいのちを持つためである」。神は私たちをとても愛しておられるので、御子イエスの血で私たちの罪を覆われました。イエスの血によって私たちの罪が覆われたので、私たち はもはや、神から引き離されることはないのです。
10節にはこうあります。「分別のある者を一回叱ることは、愚かな者を百回むち打つよりも効き目がある。」
実際に、叱られることを喜ぶ人はいませんし、特に年齢を重ねた大人はそうでしょう。しかし、この聖句は、分別のある人は教えることができると言っています。分別のある人は、自分が間違っている時に叱られたり、訂正されたりすることを受け入れることができるほど賢いのです。愚かな者は、顔を百回殴られても、自分の間違った道に気づかないのです。
14節にこうあります。「口論の始まりは水が吹き出すようなもの。争い事が起こらないうちにやめよ。」
水を地面に向ければ、あちこちにこぼれます。一旦、水があちこちにこぼれると、注いだ容器に戻すことはできません。ここで著者が言っているのは、一度喧嘩を始めると、そこから物事をコントロールするのは難しいということです。
最近のある研究者は、"フラット·ブレイン·シンドローム "と呼ばれるプロセスについて説明しています。人は怒ると、腹の中の感情が大きく膨張して、その人の脳を平らにつぶしてしまうのです。脳が平らになると、人はまっすぐに考えることができず、正しく聞くこともできず、物事をありのままに見ることもできません。二人がフラット·ブレインになったら、結果は惨憺たるものでしかありません。
だから、喧嘩は始める前に止めなければならない。一人でもフラット・ブレインな人がいたら、会話は成立しないし、続きません。自分も相手も、いつフラット·ブレインになるのか、賢く見極める必要があるのです。フラット·ブレイン・シンドロームが確認されたら、一歩下がって、落ち着くために休憩を取る必要があります。人は、意見の相違を解決するために、脳が十分に機能した状態で冷静に話し合う必要があるのです。
最後に、15節にこうあります。「悪しき者を正しいとする者、正しい人を悪いとする者、主はこの両者を忌み嫌われる。」
悪い人を正当化し、正しい人を非難する人たちのことです。このメッセージに議論の余地がないように、具体的な例は挙げませんが、世界中の多くの国のニュースステーションで毎日このようなことが起こっているのを私たちは目にしています。よく言われるのは、"One man's terrorist is another man's martyr"（一人のテロリストは、もう一人の殉教者）です。
今、世界の多くは、「真理」は相対的な言葉であり、絶対的なものではないと教えています。私たちは忌み嫌われることなく、この世に従うことなく、神の御言葉を学び、信じようではありませんか。道徳は、大学教授や政治家、人気投票によって決まるものではありません。私たちを創造された神が、ご自分に似せて人間を創造されたときに、私たちの道徳を確立されたのです。何が邪悪で何が正しいかを決めるのは、神であり、神だけです。
父なる神さま、今日の御言葉をありがとうございます。あなたのイメージで私たちを創造し、あなたのモラルを私たちのDNAに組み込んでくださったことを感謝します。お父さま、どうか今の時代の嘘と悪から私たちを守ってください。また、お父さま、あなたの御言葉に心を開くことができるように助けてください。そして、ただ暗記するだけでなく、御言葉を実践できるように、謙虚で教えがいのある心を私たちに植え付けてください。また、イエス·キリストによって救われたことを感謝します。父なる神さまが私たちを愛してくださり、御子イエスの血で私たちの罪をすべて覆ってくださったことを感謝します。父なる神さま、ありがとうございます。In Jesus Name we pray, amen.
We continue our study of proverbs that consist of simple individual sayings. This subsection of proverbs started in Chapter 10 and will continue until Chapter 22. Because Proverbs 17 covers a variety of themes, the topic on today’s message will be on “dealing with conflict and evil,” and cover verses 4, 9, 10, 14, and 15.
Verse 4 reads: “An evildoer listens to wicked lips, and a liar gives ear to a mischievous tongue” (Prov. 17:4). What this writer of this proverb is stating is that: Bad people listen to other bad people. Furthermore, liars listen to people who are up to no good. In other words, as Christ-followers, we should avoid listening in to gossip, lies, and other malicious talks.
Verse 9 reads: “Whoever covers an offense seeks love, but he who repeats a matter separates close friends” (Prov. 17:9). This is a very interesting verse that seems nothing like the Jewish culture in Jesus’ days. Let’s look at the first half: “Whoever covers an offense seeks love” (vv. 17a). Isn’t this the Gospel? John 3:16 declares: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life”(John 3:16 ESV). Because God loves us so much, he covered up our sin with the blood of His Son Jesus. Because Jesus’ blood covered our sin, we are no longer separated from God.
Verse 10 reads: “A rebuke goes deeper into a man of understanding than a hundred blows into a fool” (Prov. 17:10). The fact is, nobody enjoys being rebuked or scolded, especially adults as they grow in age. However, what this verse says is that a person of understanding is teachable. A person of understanding is wise enough to accept rebuke and correction when he is wrong. A fool can be hit a hundred times in his face and still not know his wrong ways.
Verse 14 reads: “The beginning of strife is like letting out water, so quit before the quarrel breaks out“ (Prov. 17:14). If you let water out onto the ground, it will spill all over the place. Once the water spills all over the place, you cannot restore it back into the container that you poured it from. What the author is saying here is that once you start a fight, it is hard to control things from there. One recent researcher explains a process called the “flat-brain syndrome.” When people get angry, the emotions in their belly expand so much that they squished that person’s brain flat. When people have flat brains, they cannot think straight, hear correctly, or see things as they really are. When two people go flat-brained, the only outcome is a disaster. Therefore, quarrels need to be stopped before they begin. If even one person is flat-brained, the conversation should not take place or continue. We need to be wise and identify when we or the other party is going flat-brained. If the flat-bran syndrome is identified, you need to step back and take a break to calm down. People need to talk calmly with a fully functioning brain in order to resolve their differences.
Finally, Verse 15 reads: “He who justifies the wicked and he who condemns the righteous are both alike an abomination to the Lord” (Prov. 17:15). We see this all over the world today: people who are justifying wicked people and condemning the righteous. To keep this message non-controversial, no specific examples will be given; however, we see this happen every day on news stations in many countries all over the world. The popular saying is: “One man’s terrorist is another man’s martyr.” Much of the world now teaches that “truth” is relative terms and not absolute. Let us not be abominations and follow the world, but study and believe in God’s Word. Morality is not determined by college professors, politicians, or popular vote. God, the God who created us, established our morals when he created man in His image. God, and only God, decides what is wicked and what is righteous.
Father, thank you for today’s Word. Thank you for creating us in Your Image and placing Your morals into our DNA. Please Father, protect us from the lies and evil of this day and age. Also Father, please help us to open up our hearts to your Word. And Father, please instill in us a humble and teachable heart so can also live out Your Word, not just memorize verses. We also thank You for salvation through Jesus Christ. Thank You Father for loving us so much that You covered all our sin with Your Son Jesus’ blood. Thank You Father. We love You Father.
