“The Love of our Shepherd”
ルカ15章は、天の父の私たちに対する愛の深い真理を明らかにしている章です。3節から7節は、一人の罪人が神のもとに立ち戻ったときの神の喜びを明らかにしています。
一人の罪人が神のもとに戻ってくるたびに、天のすべてが祝福するほどの喜びがあるのです。失われた羊は、どのように発見されるのでしょうか。使徒ペテロは私たちに教えています。
「キリストは自ら十字架の上で、私たちの罪をその身に負われた。それは、私たちが罪を離れ、義のために生きるため。その打ち傷のゆえに、あなたがたは癒やされた。あなたがたは羊のようにさまよっていた。しかし今や、自分のたましいの牧者であり監督者である方のもとに帰った。」（第一ペテロ2:24-25, 新改訳2017）。
迷える羊が罪を悔い改め、イエスを信じるとき、その羊はもはや "失われた "のではなく、"見出された "のです。迷子の羊が見つかると、その羊は本来の姿、つまり神との関係に戻り、神が私たちの「魂の羊飼い、監督者」である状態に戻されるのです。
神は他の99匹の羊を野原に残し、迷子になった私たちを見つけようとしてくださるのです。イエスは、「あなたがたに言います。それと同じように、一人の罪人が悔い改めるなら、悔い改める必要のない九十九人の正しい人のためよりも、大きな喜びが天にあるのです。」（ルカ15:7, 新改訳2017）と宣言している。
11節から32節は、放蕩息子の話を通して、さらに救いの深い真理を明らかにしています。繰り返しになりますが、すべての人間にとって最も自然な姿は、父なる神の愛に満ちた羊飼いに養われることです。
しかし、堕落、私たち個人の罪、自己中心性、その他数え切れないほどの理由のために、私たちは父なる神を離れて、自分のやり方で物事を行うようになりました。自由意志のおかげで、神は私たちが放蕩息子のように好きなことをするのを許してくださっています。しかし、神を羊飼いとしない私たちは、自滅してしまいます。
13節から16節は、私たちがどのように自滅していくかを説明しています。これらの節は物質的な必要性について述べていますが、第一ペテロ2章25節をもう一度思い出して、神が "私たちの羊飼い、私たちの魂の監督者 "であると説明していることを思い出す必要があります。
私たちが物理的に持っているものはすべて神の摂理から来ることは事実ですが、天の父が私たちを物理的に養ってくださるとだけ読むと、放蕩息子の話の基本的な真理を見逃すことになります。実は、多くの人は、神が私たちに望んでおられることとは正反対のことをして、物質的に豊かになっているのです。多くの裕福な人々は、神を知らずに一生を過ごしています。しかし、神なしでは、彼らは霊的に破産してしまいます。神は私たちの魂の羊飼いです。神が私たちの魂の霊的な羊飼いでなければ、私たちは100％霊的に破産してしまいます。物質的な豊かさは、ここでは単なる比喩に過ぎません。
17節では、放蕩息子が父と一緒にいた時の良き時代を思い出す様子が描かれています。神に似せて造られたすべての人間も、この気持ちを知っているはずです。私たちは皆、偉大なもののために、そして父なる神との愛の関係のために創られたのです。
私たちが神から離れているとき、私たちの魂は苦しみ、私たちを創造してくださった方、私たちの魂の羊飼いのもとに戻ることを切望するのです。
18節は、私たちがどのように罪を悔い改め、父なる神との関係に戻るのか、その簡単なプロセスを明らかにしています。謙遜に、イエスの十字架の元にひれ伏し、祈ることです。「お父さん。私は天に対して罪を犯し、あなたの前に罪ある者です。」（18節）。
20節には、神が私たちにどのように応えてくださるかが書かれています。「こうして彼は立ち上がって、自分の父のもとへ向かった。ところが、まだ家までは遠かったのに、父親は彼を見つけて、かわいそうに思い、駆け寄って彼の首を抱き、口づけした」。
私たちの父である神は、私たちのところに来てくださったのです。イエスは、遠く離れた天におられるにもかかわらず、私たちのために地上に降りてきてくださったのです。22節にこうあります。「ところが父親は、しもべたちに言った。『急いで一番良い衣を持って来て、この子に着せなさい。手に指輪をはめ、足に履き物をはかせなさい。そして肥えた子牛を引いて来て屠りなさい。食べて祝おう。この息子は、死んでいたのに生き返り、いなくなっていたのに見つかったのだから。』こうして彼らは祝宴を始めた。」（ 22〜24節）。
この聖句は、イエスの十字架上の働きの霊的真理を明らかにしています。イエスに信仰を置く前、私たちは罪の中に「死んでいた」のです。イエスに信仰を置くとき、私たちは "生き返った "状態にされたのです。さらに神は、私たちの手に指輪をはめることによって、私たちと神との関係を回復されたのです（22節）。この指輪は、神の子としての特権を伴う、私たちと神との関係の回復を意味しています。そして、私たちが信じたとき、天国のすべての人々が喜び祝ったのです（23節）。
この後の節では、イエスを信じると決めたのにイエスに従わない人がどうなるかという悲しい現実が明かされています。放蕩息子の兄は義人でした。私たちもイエス·キリストに信仰を置いたとき、イエスの義を受けました。しかし、多くの「救われた」人々が行わないのは、救われた後にイエスに従うことです。
では、自分がイエスに従っているかどうか、どうすれば分かるのでしょうか。一つは、私たちがイエスに従っているとき、聖霊が私たちのうちに働いて、私たちをますますイエスに似た者にしてくださるということです。
私たちは、イエスのように愛するようになります。イエスが大切にしておられることを大切にするようになります。私たちは、イエスが喜んでくださることに喜びを感じます。私たちは、イエスが悲しまれるようなことで、悲しくなります。
ですから、あなたがイエスと歩んでいるかどうかの優れた指標は、誰かが新しくイエスを信じたとか、バプテスマを受けたと聞いたときに、あなたがどのような反応をするかということです。あなたは、新しい人がイエスに信仰を置いたと聞くたびに、圧倒的な喜びを感じますか？ 新しい人がバプテスマを受けたと聞くたびに、天国のすべての人々が祝っているように、あなたも祝いたくなりますか？ それとも、放蕩息子の兄と同じように、大したことではないと思いますか？ クリスチャンが救われた後、イエスに従わないと決めたとき、その義は独善に変わり、私たちは兄のようになります。そうなると、私たちは霊に満たされた新しい信者を自分にとって脅威とみなすようになります。
また、自分の歩みに苦しんでいる仲間のクリスチャンを、自分にはふさわしくない存在だと思うようになります。自分が他の人よりも優れていると思い込むようになります。私たちは、自分もまだ罪人であることをすぐに忘れてしまいます。イエスが十字架で死ななければ、私たちは義になることができないことを忘れてしまうのです。このようなことが起こらないように、私たちはこの地上での残りの時間をイエスに従い、羊飼いとしてイエスに服従し続けなければならないのです。
父なる神さま、今日の御言葉をありがとうございます。あなたについて、もっともっと明らかにしてくださることを感謝します。私たちがまだ遠くにいた時に、駆けつけてきてくださるほど私たちを愛してくださっていることを感謝します。私たちがまだ深い罪の中にいたとき、あなたの息子や娘としての私たちの立場を回復するために、イエスさまを地上に送ってくださいました。
しかし、息子や娘として、あなたの息子や娘と呼ばれるにふさわしい生き方をし続けなければならないことも、あなたは教えてくださいました。そのためには、私たちは一生、あなたに従い、あなたの御心を実行し続けなければなりません。あなたが私たちの魂の羊飼いであるということは、私たちがあなたに従い、すべてをあなたに頼らなければならないということです。父なる神さま、私たちは魂の羊飼いであるあなたに服従し、私たちの魂が必要とするものをすべて与えてくださるよう、あなたに頼ろうと思います。父なる神さま、ありがとうございます。父なる神さま、私たちは父なる神さまを愛しています。In Jesus’ Name we pray, amen.
Luke 15 is a chapter that reveals to us the deepest truths of our Father in Heaven’s love for us. Verses 3 through 7 reveals God’s joy when one sinner turns back to Him. There is so much joy that all of heaven celebrates whenever one sinner comes back to God. How exactly is a lost sheep found. The Apostle Peter teaches us: “He himself bore our sins to his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live in righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed. For you were straying like sheep, but have not returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of our souls” (1 Peter 2:24-25). Whenever a lost sheep repents of his sins and believes in Jesus, he is no longer “lost,” but “found.” Whenever a lost sheep is found, he is restored to his natural state – which is to be back in a relationship with God, where God is our “Shepherd and Overseer of our souls.” God left the other 99 sheep in the field to find us when we were lost too. Jesus declared” “Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance” (Luke 15:7).
Verses 11 through 32 further reveals the deepest truths of salvation through the story of the prodigal son. Again, the natural state for everyone is to be under the loving shepherd care of God our Father. However, because of the Fall, our own personal sin, self centeredness, and countless other reasons, we left God our Father to do things our own way. Because of free-will, God allows us to pretty much do what we want, just like the prodigal son. However, without God as our shepherd, we self-destruct. Verses 13 through 16 explains how we self-destruct. Although these verses talk about material needs, we need to recall recall 1 Peter 2:25 again that explains that God is “our Shepherd and overseer of our souls.” Although it is true that everything we physically possess comes from God providence, we will miss the foundational truths of the story of the prodigal son if we only read it as how our heavenly Father provides for us physically. The truth is, many people get materially wealthy by doing the exact opposite of what God wants us to do. Many wealthy people live their entire lives not knowing God. However, without God, they are spiritually bankrupt. God is the Shepherd of our souls. Without God as the spiritual Shepherd of our souls, we will go spiritually bankrupt 100% of the time. Material wealth is just a metaphor here.
Verse 17 reveals how the prodigal son remembers how good things were with the Father. Every human being, created in God’s image, should also know this feeling. We were all created for great things and to be in a loving relationship with God our Father. When we are apart from God, our soul will be in pain and long to be back with Him who created us, the Shepherd of our souls. Verse 18 reveals the simple process of how we are to repent of our sins and return to a relationship with God our Father. In all humility, we must fall to the feet of Jesus’ Cross and pray: “Father, I have sinned against heaven and before You” (Luke 15:18). Verse 20 shows how God responds to us: “But while he was still a long way off, his Father saw him and felt compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him” (Luke 15: 20). God, our Father, came to us. Jesus, although far away in heaven, came down to earth for us. Verse 22 states: “But the Father said to His servants, ‘Bring quickly the best robe, and put it on Him, and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet. And bring the fattened calf and kill it, and let us eat and celebrate. For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found.’ And they began to celebrate” (Luke 15: 22-24). This verse reveals the spiritual truth of Jesus’ work on the Cross. Before we placed our faith in Jesus, we were “dead” in our sins. When we placed our faith in Jesus, we were made “alive again.” Furthermore, God restored our relationship with Him by placing a ring on our hands (v. 22). This ring signifies our restored relationship with Him which comes with all the privileges that accompanies the status of being a child of God. Finally, when we believed, all of heaven celebrated (v. 23).
The later verses reveals the sad reality of what happens to people when they decide to believe in Jesus but not follow Jesus. The prodigal son’s older brother was righteous. When we placed our faith in Jesus Christ, we too received Jesus’ righteousness. What many “saved” people fail to do, however, is to follow Jesus after they are saved. So how do we know if we are following Jesus? For one, as we follow Jesus, the Holy Spirit works in us to make us more and more like Jesus. We begin to love like Him. We begin to care for what He cares for. We get happy for things that make Him happy. We get sad by things that make Him sad. Therefore, an excellent indicator of your personal walk with Jesus is how you react when you hear that someone new believed in Jesus or is being baptized. Do you feel an overwhelming joy whenever you hear that someone new is placing their faith in Jesus? Do you feel like celebrating too, as all of heaven is celebrating, whenever you hear that someone new is being baptized? Do you feel an overwhelming joy or see it as no big deal just like the prodigal son’s older brother? When Christians are saved and decide to not follow Jesus, their righteousness turns into a self-righteousness and we become like the older brother. When this happens, we begin to view new believers who are full of the spirit as threats to us. We begin to view fellow Christians who struggle in their walk as unworthy. We begin to falsely believe that we are better then others. We soon forget that we too are still sinners. We soon forget that we cannot be righteous without Jesus’ death on the cross. To avoid this from happening to us, we must continue to follow Jesus for the rest of our time here on earth and submit to Him as our Shepherd.
Thank you, Father, for today’s Word. Thank you for revealing to us more and more about You. Thank you for loving us so much that you came running to us while we were still far away. While we were still deep in our sin, You sent Jesus to earth to restore our positions as Your sons and daughters. As Your sons and daughters, however, You also showed us that we must continue to live a life that is worthy of being called your sons and daughters. To do this, we must continue to follow You and do Your will for the rest of our lives. Having You as the Shepherd of our souls means that we must obey You and rely on You for everything. Father, we will submit to You as the Shepherd of our souls and depend on You to provide all that our soul needs. Thank You Father. We love You Father. In Jesus’ Name we pray, amen.
