使徒の働きは、多くの人に “ルカ第2部 ”として知られています。その理由は使徒の働き1章1節に書かれています。「テオフィロ様。私は前の書で、イエスが行い始め、また教え始められたすべてのことについて書き記しました。それは、お選びになった使徒たちに聖霊によって命じた後、天に上げられた日までのことでした。」（使徒1章1-2節,新改訳2017）
ルカの福音書も「テオフィロ」への挨拶で始まっているので、この書がルカによって書かれたものであることが分かります（ルカ1：3、使徒1：1）。多くの学者は、ルカの第二の書物は “使徒の働き ”と題されていますが、より適切な名前は“聖霊さまの働き”だと主張しています。
その理由は、四つの福音書はイエスの地上での働きを記述していますが、“使徒の働き”は、聖霊の働きが記されているからです。これから“使徒の働き” を読んでいく中で、これらの物語を通して、聖霊が全編にわたって主人公であることを意識していきましょう。
使徒の働き読むとき、この書は、著者が目撃した出来事が記されている書であることを心に留めておきましょう。また“使徒の働き”を読み進めていく上で、この時代は歴史上非常に特殊な時代であったということも心に留めておく必要があります。
それは、イエスの地上での働きと、聖霊を通して始まった新しい働きへの移行期だということです。“使徒の働き”に登場するクリスチャンがある方法で物事を経験したからといって、私たちも同じような経験をするとは限らないということです。
例えば、聖霊に満たされたという体験は、今日まで教会に大きな分裂を引き起こしてきました。あるクリスチャンは、使徒の働き2章1節～4節の出来事と同じように聖霊のバプテスマを受けると主張します。しかし、この経験は今日においては典型的なものではないと、ほとんどの人が知っています。
あるキリスト教グループは、もし人々がこの経験をして異言を語り始めないなら、その人は救われていないと主張します。このような考え方は、誤った神学です。神は主権者ですから、使徒の働き2章1節～4節で起こったことを今日も人々に経験させることがおできになります。
しかし、すべてのクリスチャンがこれを経験しなければならないと主張するのは、絶対に間違っています。使徒の働き10章44節では、異邦人クリスチャンが御言葉を聞いたときに聖霊が降ったことが書かれています。しかし、聖霊が炎のような舌で激しい風のように降ったとは書かれていません。また彼らは、異言を話すようになりましたが（使徒の働き10:46）、このような経験も今日においては典型的なものではないことがわかります。
異言を話すことは救いの証拠にはなりません。使徒たちが異言を語ったとき、他の人たちは、それを地球上の言葉として聞いていたことを忘れてはなりません。人々が異言を聞くとき、その国の言葉を話す人々は、その言葉を理解していたのです（使徒2:6-13）。
今日の教会で分裂の原因となっているもう一つの問題は、現代の使徒についてです。この言葉は、“神から遣わされた者”という意味ですが、今日多くの人が「使徒」という言葉を使う文脈は、イエスの12使徒についてであることが分かっています。
今日、危険な教師たちは、エペソ4章11節が、使徒、預言者、伝道者、牧師、教師という五つのミニストリーが存在することを教えていると主張しています。これらの教師は、使徒と預言者の役割は今日でも人間が担っていると考えているのです。しかし、エペソ2章20節は、教会は「使徒たちや預言者たちという土台の上に建てられていて、キリスト・イエスご自身がその要の石です。」と宣言しているので、これは真実ではないことがわかるのです。
私たちは、イエスがもはやこの地上で肉体をもって私たちに奉仕していないことを事実として知っています。ですから、同じ理由で、使徒と預言者はもはやこの地上で今日、肉体をもって私たちに奉仕していないことも知っています。
では、エペソ4章11節はどういう意味でしょうか。ここで、使徒信条に書かれているのと同じ「聖徒の交わり」の教義が登場するのです。では「聖徒の交わり」の教義とは何でしょうか。基本的には、聖徒の交わりとは、聖霊が空間や時間に制限されることなく、歴史上のすべての信徒（生きている者も天国に行った者も）に宿り、その働きを継続することです。
これに対して、キリストの体とは、この地上にいる信者の集合体からなるこの地上の教会です。聖徒の交わりは、歴史上のすべての信者の集合体であり、現在地上に生きている信者と天国にいる信者の集合体です。
もしこれが、使徒と預言者が生身の人間として地上に存在しないことの十分な証拠でないなら、使徒の働き1章20節から22節は、使徒になるための条件を説明しています。使徒の働き1章21節から22節にはこうあります。「ですから、主イエスが私たちと一緒に生活しておられた間、すなわち、ヨハネのバプテスマから始まって、私たちを離れて天に上げられた日までの間、いつも私たちと行動をともにした人たちの中から、だれか一人が、私たちとともにイエスの復活の証人とならなければなりません。」
神のことばは、イエス・キリストの使徒になるためには、その人は、1）イエスがバプテスマのヨハネからバプテスマを受け、2）イエスが天に昇り、3）イエスが復活したことの目撃者でなければならないと宣言しているのです。要するに、この3つの必須条件のどれかを満たす人間は、ましてやすべてを満たす人間は、現在生きている人間にはいないのです。
「しかし、聖霊があなたがたに下るとき力を受け、エルサレム、ユダヤとサマリヤの全土、および地の果てにまで、私の証人となるのです。」（使徒の働き1：8）。
これはまた、マタイ28章18節から20節にある大宣教命令の一部でもあります。イエスはすべての信者、私たちのようなすべてのクリスチャンに、全世界に対してイエスの証人（使徒1：8）となり、イエスが私たちに教えたことをすべて模範を示して教えなさい（マタイ28：20）と命じているのです。
しかし、今日、私たちが思い起こすのは、真実なことだけを他の人に教えるようにすることです。私たちは、偽りの教師が教える聖書の偽りから心を守らなければなりません。さらに、意図的であろうとなかろうと、間違った教えを他の人に教えてはいけません。イエスの真理だけが私たちを自由にすることができるのです。
父なる神さま、今日の御言葉をありがとうございます。あなた、あなただけが神です。あなた、あなただけが真理の創造主です。
今日の通読を通して、あなたの教会としての私たち全員の計画を示してくださってありがとうございます。あなたは、私たちがあなたの証人となるように命じられました。私たちがあなたの大宣教命令を遂行し、あなたの平和の福音を世界に広めるために、私たち全員の中におられるあなたの霊に注意を払うことができるように助けてくださいますようお願いします。

The book of Acts is known to many as “Luke Part 2.” The reason for this is revealed in Acts 1:1, where Luke talks about his first book that “dealt with all that Jesus began to do and teach, until the day when he [Jesus] was taken up” (Acts 1:1-2). We know that this first book is the Gospel of Luke as it too begins with a greeting to “Theophilus” (Luke 1:3; Acts 1:1). Many scholars argue that although Luke’s second book is titled “Acts of the Apostles,” a more proper name for it should be “Acts of the Holy Spirit.” The reason for this is that the four gospels narrate the ministry of Jesus’ physical ministry on earth. The book of Acts, however, narrates Jesus’ continued ministry on earth that is carried out through the ministry of the Holy Spirit. As we read through the Acts of the Apostles in the next few weeks, let’s be aware that all through these narratives, it was the Holy Spirit that is the main character all throughout.
As we read the book of Acts, let's keep in mind that it is a book that contains narratives of eyewitnessed events. As we keep on reading the book of Acts, we need to also keep in mind that this was a very unique time in history. It was a transition time between Jesus’ physical ministry and the new, never before seen, ministry of Jesus through the Holy Spirit. Because this was a unique time in history, we need to remember that just because the Christians in the Book of Acts experienced things in a certain way, it does not mean that we too will have the same experiences. One major example, one that causes major division in churches up until today, that will come in the next chapters is how Christians experience being indwelled by the Holy Spirit. Although some Christians claim to have experienced the indwelling of the Holy Spirit by what they claim to be a second baptism of the Holy Spirit that is similar to Acts 2:1-4, most of us know that this experience is not typical today. Some Christian groups claim that if people do not have this experience and start to speak in tongues, they are not saved. This type of thinking is false and wrong theology. We know that God is sovereign so He is capable until this day of having people experience what happened in Acts 2:1-4, however, to claim that every Christian must experience this is absolutely incorrect. We know this because even in Acts 10:44, we read that although the Holy Spirit fell on the Gentile believers as they heard the Word, the Holy Spirit did not come in a mighty rushing wind with divided tongues of fire. Furthermore, although these new believers started speaking in tongues (Acts 10:46), we know that this experience too is not typical today. Speaking in tongues is not proof of salvation; especially the babbling of repeated sounds that people who claim to be able to speak in tongues often do. We must remember that when people spoke in tongues, other people heard them as real earth languages. When people listened to these tongues, those that spoke these earth languages understood what was being said (Acts 2:6-13).
Another cause for division in today’s churches is the subject of modern-day apostles. Although the term can refer to anyone who is sent from God, we know that the context in which many use the term “Apostle” today is in reference to Jesus’ 12. Dangerous teachers today claim that Ephesians 4:11 teach that there are apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers today in what they commonly refer to as the five-fold ministry. These teachers believe that the roles of apostles and prophets are held by humans, even today. However, we know that this is not true because Ephesians 2:20 declares that the church is “built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus Himself as the chief cornerstone.” We know for a fact that Jesus no longer ministers to us in the flesh here on earth. Therefore, for the same reason, we also know that apostles and prophets no longer minister to us here on earth today in the flesh. So what does Ephesians 4:11 mean? This is where the doctrine of the “Communion of the Saints,” the same Communion of the Saints that is mentioned in the Apostle’s Creed comes in. So what is the Doctrine of the Communion of Saints? Basically, the Communion of the Saints is about the continuing ministry of the Holy Spirit, not limited by space or time, indwells all believers throughout history, both living and those that went to heaven. In contrast, the body of Christ is the church here on earth that consists of the collective believers here on earth. The Communion of Saints is the collective of all believers throughout all of history; those currently living on earth and those that are in heaven. Therefore, through the Communion of Saints, Jesus’ twelve apostles and all the prophets, who are in heaven, continue to minister to believers on earth even today. If this is not enough proof that apostles and prophets do not exist on earth in the flesh today, Acts 1:20-22 explains that requirements to be an Apostle. Acts 1:21-22 states: “So one of the men who have accompanied us during all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, beginning from the (baptism of John) until (the day when he was taken up from us)—one of these men must become with us a (witness to his resurrection).” What God’s Word declares is that to be an apostle of Jesus Christ, that person has to be an eye-witness of 1) Jesus’ baptism by John the Baptist, 2) Jesus’ ascension into heaven, and 3) Jesus’ resurrection. In short, there is no human being alive today that can fulfill any of these three essential requirements; much less all of them.
Finally, let us not forget God’s mission for all Christians here on earth: “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth” (Acts 1:8). This is also part of the Great Commission that is found in Matthew 28:18-20. Jesus commands all believers, all Christians like us, to be His witnesses (Acts 1:8) to all the earth and teach by example all that He taught us (Matthew 28:20). What we are reminded of today, however, is to make sure that we only teach others what is true. We must guard our minds against biblical falsehoods that are taught by false teachers. Furthermore, we must certainly not teach others any false teachings, whether it is intentional or unintentional. Only Jesus’ truth can set us free, nothing else.
Thank you, Father, for today’s Word. You, and You alone are God. You, and You alone are the author of truth. Thank You for showing us, through today’s reading, your plan for all of us as Your church. You commanded us to be Your witnesses to the whole earth. We ask that You help to keep us attentive to Your Spirit that is in all of us as we carry out Your Great Commission and spread your Gospel of peace into the world. We ask that Your same spirit keep our minds safe from any falsehoods that are not from You. As we carry out the Great Commission and share the Gospel with others, we ask that Your Spirit, that is in all of us, keep our words true and pure. Thank You, Father. We love You, Father. In Jesus’ Name we pray, amen.
