コリント人への手紙第二 13章
“We Follow Christ, and Christ Alone”
今日は、第二コリント13章である。パウロは、厄介なコリント教会への対応を続けている。この手紙の最後の部分では、パウロが再び教会を訪れた時、彼らが罪を悔い改めないままでいると、厳しい処置をとらなければならないと述べられている（9-10節）。
コリント教会では、多くの人が罪を悔い改めたのだが、そうでない人も大勢いたようだ。そこでパウロは、コリント教会の中で悔い改めた二人か三人で、悔い改めない人たちに対して証しをするように求めている（1節）。
前の12章では、この頑固で悔い改めない人々が犯し続けている罪が記されている。「争い、ねたみ、憤り、党派心、悪口、陰口、高ぶり、混乱。」（2コリント12:20-21抜粋 ）。
しかし、もっと大きな問題は、3節にあるように、ある人々がパウロの使徒としての権威に挑戦していることにある。パウロは自分の使徒職と福音を擁護し、こう宣言している。「キリストは弱さのゆえに十字架につけられましたが、神の力によって生きておられます。私たちもキリストにあって弱い者ですが、あなたがたに対しては、神の力によってキリストとともに生きるのです。」（4節）。
キリストに従う者は、柔和、親切、謙遜であることが知られている（2コリント10-1）。一方で、第二コリント11章に登場するいわゆる偽の使徒がいる。彼らは、異なる福音を宣べ伝え、その奉仕に対してお金を請求しているようだ（第二コリント11: 7-10）。
残念ながら、悔い改めないコリント教会の人々の中には、彼らの間違った教えに従い続けている人がいるようだ。そこで、パウロはコリントの人々に、自分自身を吟味し、テストするように求めている（5節）。彼らは自分の中に、柔和で、親切で、へりくだったキリストを見出すことができるだろうか。
キリストが私たちのうちに住んでおられ、私たちが聖霊によって変えられ続けているのだから、私たちはだんだんとキリストの特徴である柔和、親切、謙遜を帯び始めるだろう。キリストが私たちのうちに増すにつれ、私たちの古い嫌悪すべき暴力的で高慢な性質は次第に消えていく。「私たちはみな、覆いを取り除かれた顔に、鏡のように主の栄光を映しつつ、栄光から栄光へと、主と同じかたちに姿を変えられていきます。これはまさに、御霊なる主の働きによるのです。」（2コリント3:18 ）。
私たちがキリストに従い、キリストのくびきを負い続けるとき、私たちはキリストの姿に変えられていくのだ。しかし、これは私たちが選択することなのである。キリストのくびきを受け入れないと、私たちは破滅してしまうだろう。
父なる神さま、今日の御言葉を感謝します。あなたは宇宙の創造主であり、今までにあったすべてのものの源です。人の手で造られたものには、主であるあなたを収めることができません。しかし、あなたは私たちと一緒に住むと約束されました。そして、その方法は、あなたがお造りになった私たちの体を、この地上においてあなたの神殿とすることであったことを、私たちは今知っています。
今日のレッスンを通して、キリストが私たちのうちに本当に住んでおられるなら、私たちはキリストの特質、すなわち柔和、親切、謙遜、そしてもちろん愛を反映するようになることを思い出させてくださってありがとうございました。
父なる神さま、どうか私たちの人生にあなたの御心が成され、私たちがあなたのお姿へと回復することができますように。

Today we are reading 2 Corinthians 13, where Paul continues to deal with the troublesome Corinthian church. This final part of Paul’s letter mentions that he will be visiting them again with hopes of finding them all restored from their sin and not remaining unrepentant, lest he would have to kick them out of the church (v.9-10). Although many in the Corinthian church appeared to have repented from their sins, a large part of them had not. Therefore, Paul asks the repentant part of the Corinthians, two or three at a time, to collect evidence and bear witness against the unrepentant people (v.1). The previous chapter, 2 Corinthians 12, notes the sins that these stubborn, unrepentant people continue to commit: “quarreling, jealousy, anger, hostility, slander, gossip, conceit, and disorder. . . impurity, sexual immorality, and sensuality that they have practiced” (2 Corinthians 12:20-21 ESV). The greater issue, however, is referenced in verse 3, where some people are challenging Paul’s Apostolic authority. Paul defends his apostleship and gospel, declaring: “For he was crucified in weakness, but lives by the power of God. For we also are weak in him, but in dealing with you we will live with him by the power of God” (v.4). Christ and those that follow Him are known for their meekness, gentleness, and humility (2 Corinthians 10-1). This is unlike the so-called false Super Apostles mentioned in 2 Corinthians 11, that preach a different gospel and, unlike Paul, likely charge money for their services (2 Corinthians 11: 7-10). Unfortunately, it appears that some of the unrepentant Corinthians continue to follow their false teachings. Therefore, Paul asks the Corinthians to examine and test themselves (v.5). Do they find Christ in themselves, who is meek, gentle, and humble?
Because Christ lives in us and we are continuing to be transformed by the Holy Spirit, we will gradually begin to take on His traits of meekness, gentleness, and humility. As Christ increases in us, our old spiteful, violent, and prideful nature gradually disappears. This is the truth that Paul revealed to the Corinthians in chapter 3: “And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit” (2 Corinthians 3:18 ESV). As we continue to follow Christ and take His yoke upon ourselves, we become transformed into His image. But this is our choice to make. Not accepting Christ’s yoke will result in our destruction.
Thank You, Father, for today’s Word. You are the Creator of the Universe and the source of everything that ever was. Nothing built by man’s hands can contain You Lord. Yet You promised that You would dwell with us. And we now know that the method You accomplished this with was to have our bodies, which You created, become Your temple here on earth. Thank You for reminding us through today’s lesson that if Christ truly lives in us, we will reflect His qualities, which are meekness, gentleness, humility, and of course, love. Father, please have Your will be done in our lives so we can all be restored to become like You. Thank You, Father. We Love You, Father. In Jesus’ Name we pray, amen.
