Jesus Set Us Free!
ガラテヤ4章は、パウロがガラテヤ3章で説明していたことの続きである。ユダヤ人クリスチャンの中には思い違いをして、異邦人クリスチャンが完全に回心して救われるためには、ユダヤ教に改宗し、彼らの伝統を受け入れることが絶対に必要だと主張する人が少なくありませんでした。
しかしパウロは、救いはイエス・キリストを信じる信仰によるものであり、律法の働きによるものではないことを明確にしました。律法は、人々の罪に対する一時的な措置にすぎなかったのです（ガラテヤ3:19）。残念ながら、律法は人々を捕らえ、奴隷にするという副作用がありました（ガラテヤ3:23）。しかし、人がイエスにあるとき、ユダヤ人か非ユダヤ人か、奴隷か自由人か、男か女かという区別はもはやありません（ガラテヤ3:28）。イエスを信じる者は皆、区別なく、アブラハムの約束を受け継ぐ者となり、律法から解放されるのです（ガラテヤ3:29）。
ガラテヤ4章1節から7節で、パウロはこの状況を比喩で表現しています。ユダヤ教の伝統では、男子は成人して所定の年齢になるまで、父親の遺産を相続することができませんでした。息子が父親の遺産を受け継ぐことができるのは、成人を迎えてからなのです。パウロは、律法とはこの男子の相続人が成人するまでの待ち時間のようなものだと説明しています。
イエスの十字架上の御業を信じて受ける恵みによる救いは、この少年が成人することと意味が平行しているのです。律法の業ではなく、キリストを信じる信仰によって、信者は神によって完全な相続人となり、神をアバ父と呼ぶことができるのです（ガラテヤ4：6-7）。
私たち人間は、伝統というものに大きな問題を抱えています。イエスの十字架上の死によって、ユダヤ人は人間的な伝統や儀式から解放されたものの、それを手放して本当の意味で自由になることを拒みました。ユダヤ人クリスチャンは、律法から解放されたものの、奴隷の鎖を外すことを拒みました。彼らは、律法、割礼、その他の清めの儀式を捨て去ることを拒んだのです。彼らはこれらの鎖を外すことを拒んだだけでなく、他の非ユダヤ人クリスチャンもこれらの鎖の束縛の下に置くことを主張しました。
では、ここで何が大きな問題なのでしょうか？ 私たちが信仰によって受けた救いは、私たちを律法や伝統から解放してくれました。しかし、今日の多くのクリスチャンは、聖書が言及していない規則や伝統を守ることに固執しています。これらのルールの多くは文化的なものです。
日本では、伝統的に下層階級とみなされてきた女性、若い人、貧しい人、家族全体を抑圧することに問題があります。残念ながら、このような文化的価値観は神の教会にも持ち込まれ、年配者や裕福な人々の特定のグループがより大きな声を上げることがよくあります。世俗的な価値観に影響されたこれらの影響力の強い人々が、聖書と相容れない方法でキリストの体に影響を与えることも少なくありません。
私たちは皆、イエスと、イエスが愛し、救いたいと願っている人々との間にいかなる障壁も置かないよう、細心の注意を払わなければなりません。イエスは全地球に呼びかけています。
「すべて疲れた人、重荷を負っている人はわたしのもとに来なさい。わたしがあなたがたを休ませてあげます。わたしは心が柔和でへりくだっているから、あなたがたもわたしのくびきを負って、わたしから学びなさい。そうすれば、たましいに安らぎを得ます。わたしのくびきは負いやすく、わたしの荷は軽いからです。」(マタイの福音書 11:28-30新改訳2017)。
イエスは、ご自身の与えるくびきを、自分たちの、そして私たちのものにするよう呼びかけています。
父なる神よ、今日の御言葉をありがとうございます。あなたの御子イエスによって、私たちは真の自由を手に入れました。イエスの血は、私たちを罪の束縛から解放してくれたのです。私たちはみな罪人ですから、律法は決して私たちを罪から救ってはくれませんでした。
しかし、イエスの血によって、私たちはあなたの御国の完全な成熟した相続人となったのです。古い習慣から離れ、イエスが私たちの罪のために死んでくださったことを信じることによって、私たちは今、あなたの御国の共同相続人としてふさわしい場所に立つことができます。
完全に養子となった私たちは、あなたを "アバ父 "と呼ぶことができるようになりました。ありがとうございます、アバ・ファーザー! 私たちはあなたを愛しています、アバ・ファーザー！ イエスの御名によって、私たちは祈ります。In Jesus’ Name we pray, amen!
Galatians 4 is a continuation of what Paul was explaining in Galatians 3. A number of Jewish Christians were mistakenly believed, and insisted that it was absolutely necessary for Gentile Christians to convert to Judaism and accept their traditions in order to be fully converted and saved. However, Paul made it very clear that salvation is through faith in Jesus Christ and not the works of the law. The Law was only a temporary measure that addressed the sin of the people (Galatians 3:19). Unfortunately, the Law had a side effect of holding people captive and enslaving them (Galatians 3:23). When a person is in Jesus, however, there are no longer distinctions between Jew or Non-Jew, Slave or free, or male and female (Galatians 3:28). All who believe in Jesus, without distinction, becomes heirs to Abraham’s promises and free from the law (Galatians 3:29). In Galatians 4:1-7, Paul uses a metaphor to describe this situation. In Jewish traditions, boys were not able to inherit his father’s inheritance until a predetermined age in his adulthood. It is only after attaining adulthood that a son could receive his father’s inheritance. Paul explains that the law is like this waiting period before a male heir comes to age. Salvation by grace that is received in faith of Jesus’ work on the Cross is the parallel of this boy coming to manhood. Through faith in Christ, not the works of the law, a believer is now a full heir through God and can call Him Abba Father (Galatians 4:6-7).
We humans have a big problem with traditions. Although Jesus’ death on the Cross freed the Jews from their human traditions and rituals, they refused to let go and be truly free. The Jewish Christians, although free from the law, refused to take off their chains of slavery. They refused to leave behind their laws, hedge laws, circumcision, and other cleansing rituals. Not only did the refuse to take off these chains, they insisted that other non-Jewish Christians also be placed under the bondage of these chains. So what is the big deal here? The salvation that we received by faith set us free from the law and traditions. However, many Christians today insist on up-keeping rules and traditions that the Bible never mentioned. Many of these rules are cultural in origin. Japan has a problem with oppressing women, younger people, poor people, and entire families who have been traditionally seen as low class. Unfortunately, these cultural values often carry over into God’s Church where certain groups of older and wealthier people often have a louder voice. Many times, these highly influential people, influenced by their secular values, influence the body of Christ in ways that are not compatible with the Bible. We must all be very careful not to place any barriers between Jesus and those that He loves and wants to save. Jesus calls to the whole earth: “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light”(Matthew 11:28-30ESV). Jesus calls the world to take His yoke upon themselves, nor ours.
Thank You, Father, for today’s Word! Indeed, through Your Son Jesus, we attained true freedom. The blood of Jesus set us free from the bondage of sin. The law never saved us from sin because we are all sinners. However, through the blood of Jesus, we because full mature heirs to Your kingdom. By turning away from our old ways and believing that Jesus died for our sins, we can now take our proper places as co-heirs to your Kingdom. Being fully adopted, we can now call you “Abba Father!” Thank You, Abba Father! We love You, Abba Father! In Jesus’ Name we pray, amen.
